Our Research

The Breeden Lab studies quiescence, in which cells conserve resources and energy by halting growth and many other cellular processes. Though most cells spend most their lifetimes in this state, much less is known about quiescence than growth. Dr. Breeden studies how rapidly dividing cells move into quiescence, and how quiescent cells transition back into growth and division when environmental triggers change. Dr. Breeden’s work could shed light on the ways that tumor cells find to avoid entering — or to quickly exit from — this quiet, nongrowing state.
