Hana

Hana Khan was born in Germany and spent her early childhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland, before eventually settling down in West Lafayette, Indiana. She began her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in 2021, where she became interested in evolutionary genetics and chromatin biology. Hana joined the Malik Lab as a freshman and, after graduating in 2025, continued as a research technician and post-baccalaureate scholar. Working with Dr. Pravrutha Raman, Hana's primary project focuses on the evolution of histone H2A and its variants H2A.X and H2A.Z, using budding yeast as a model to understand how histone repertoires diversify while maintaining essential genome functions. Outside the lab, Hana enjoys cooking, climbing, surfing, and anything music-related!
