Dr. Shadman is an associate professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and an assistant professor of medicine at University of Washington (UW). He is a blood and marrow transplant expert who specializes in treating patients with blood disorders.

He is involved in clinical trials using novel agents for treatment of blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma with a focus on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). He also studies the clinical outcomes of patients who have already been treated. His goal is to identify specific patient or disease specific characteristics that can help us understand the behavior of disease and to predict its responsiveness to different treatments.

Dr. Shadman is particularly interested in studying epidemiology of hematologic neoplasms. The association between autoimmune disorders, allergy and asthma and hematologic malignancies has been an area of controversy with conflicting reports by different investigators. Using the VITAL cohort data, h took the lead on a project that looked at this association and reported a positive correlation between specific types of allergies and hematologic cancer.

Dr. Shadman received his M.D. from Tehran University in Iran. He finished internal medicine internship and residency trainings at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He returned to Seattle and finished his training in hematology and medical oncology fellowships at the UW and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

Dr. Shadman also earned an M.P.H. degree from UW and was a fellow for National Cancer Institute’s cancer research training program at Fred Hutch, where he studies cancer epidemiology.
