Partnering with Tribal Communities in Washington

Our goal is to partner with American Indian and Alaska Native communities in Washington State to develop culturally relevant, evidence-based nutrition and cancer prevention resources. We are inviting all Tribes and Tribal-serving organizations to participate.

The purpose of the study is to:

  • Learn what nutrition, cancer prevention, and cancer survivorship information is available in Washington Tribal communities and organizations
  • Understand how community members prefer to receive health and nutrition information
  • Gather input from community and organization members through interviews
  • Develop nutrition education materials for American Indian and Alaska Native individuals in Washington

Who Can Participate

You may be eligible if you:

  • Identify as an AI/AN cancer patient or survivor or
    • Have been a caregiver for an AI/AN cancer patient or survivor or
    • Work for an organization that serves AI/AN cancer patients or survivors
  • Live in Washington State
  • Are 18 years or older

What Participation Involves

  • If your Tribe or organization is interested, the study team will first request Tribal and organizational approval
  • After Tribal and IRB approvals are obtained, Tribal organization staff or community members with experience or lived knowledge related to nutrition, cancer prevention, and/or cancer survivorship will be invited to participate in a one-on-one research interview
  • Interviews may take up to 60 minutes, can be done by phone or video, and participants will receive a $100 gift card as a thank you

This study is being led by researchers from the Fred Hutch Cancer Center and University of Washington with expertise in nutrition, cancer prevention and survivorship, and community-engaged research.
