Welcome to the Schiffer Group. Each of our projects involves mathematical models applied to human viral infection data though our toolbox expands beyond modeling. The nature of our projects is multi-disciplinary encompassing virology, immunology, pharmacology, vaccinology, evolutionary biology, epidemiology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, and clinical medicine. We focus primarily on HIV, SARS-CoV-2, HSV-2, and CMV, though our approach lends itself to the study of all human viruses. Our projects span from fundamental basic science to applications with immediate clinical relevance. To this end, we are grateful to collaborate with superb clinical and laboratory colleagues at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington. We are always eager to engage in new research partnerships that address clinically important questions in infectious diseases.
