Constructions of Tissue Microarray from SWOG/NCI Breast Intergroup breast tumor samples

Grant Title: Construction of Tissue Microarray from archival Southwest Oncology Group/NCI Breast Intergroup breast tumor samples
Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) Grant
Role: Principal Investigator

This study expands the potential of the valuable tissue resources collected as part of SWOG/Intergroup studies, and investigates molecular characteristics associated with treatment response and clinical endpoints. The specific aims are:

  1. Construct tissue microarray blocks from archival breast tumor blocks (approximately 2000) obtained in SWOG Protocol #9313
  2. Initiate studies using the #9313 TMA tissue blocks to examine differences in tumor marker expression, e.g., Her2 neu and cell cycle regulatory proteins, with respect to relapse after anthracycline-based therapy
  3. Establish protocols within the Intergroup Breast Correlative Sciences Review Committee (IBCSRC) for review and approval of proposals for use of TMA slides.
  4. Provide approved studies with:
    • pre-cut TMA slides for testing
    • a web-based platform for viewing scanned images (stripped of any directly linkable identifiers)
    • data analysis through the SWOG Statistical Center
