Violet graduated from the University of Chicago in 2017 with a BS in Biological Sciences. As an undergraduate she worked with Dr. Vicky Prince studying the mechanisms of facial neuron migration through the developing zebrafish hindbrain. After receiving her degree she worked as a technician in the brand new lab of Dr. Robert Carrillo at the University of Chicago, studying the molecules that direct synaptic partner choice in the Drosophila neuromuscular circuit. She joined the Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD program in the fall of 2019 and decided to join Dr. Singhvi’s lab, where she is interested in understanding how glial engulfment of neurons is regulated and exploring C. elegans male glia biology.
Outside of the lab, Violet loves to cook, work on the NY Times Crossword, read science fiction, and bike down all of Seattle’s hills.
