Manuel is originally from Colombia, where migrated from at the age of 15. Since then, he's obtained his B.S. in Biology (Physiology emphasis) in 2016 and M.S in Physiology and behavioral biology in 2018 from San Francisco State University (SFSU). During his time at SFSU he studied the systemic responses to tissue damage in the hornworm, Manduca sexta, in the lab of Dr. Megumi Fuse. his experience with science at SFSU motivated him to pursue a PhD degree, where he is now focusing on understanding the molecular basis of behavior using C. elegans as a model organism in the lab of Dr. Jihong Bai.
When science goes to rest, Manuel likes to explore new activities/hobbies from hiking and exploring nature to enjoying drag shows and the night life of Seattle.
